Post 2: Literature's Role in Cybersecurity

Literature is relevant to my major (Cybersecurity) and my career (Information Technology). While studying for Cybersecurity, students must read reports and write them as well. Literature will help me sharpen my analysis skills, even more. After studying and learning the uniqueness of literature, I can easily apply it to my major. Cybersecurity requires netiquette because it involves communicating in a professional manner. Literature will help evolve my communication skills to a higher and more intelligent level. Without literature it would be hard to succeed in my major because all the pieces of communication would not be in their proper places.

The IT field is the same way; communication is one of the most important elements in the field of Information Technology. My career is more than just fixing computers and troubleshooting networking issues. A major part of my career is communicating with end users. The communication can be talking to the end user over the phone or face-to-face, communicating through emails, or communicating through a ticketing system. No matter the communication type, documentation of the conversation and the process to solve the issue must be conducted. Literature will help my documentation process become smoother.

Since literature is basically proper communication, it is a must to learn because my career focus heavily on communicating with everyone. Literature will help me have a better understanding of what I am reading and how to properly analyze my readings. Also, since documentation is extremely important in my career, literature is the backbone. The more you read properly, the better you will become at writing properly. "Practice makes perfect!!!" The ONLY way we can perfect our literature skills is to continuously read and write.

  1. I agree. I am also an Information Technology major (though I have not decided my area of concentration yet) and also believe that the sharing of information through literature is one of the most important parts of this field for a variety of reasons. From the spreading of information on developing technology, to, like you said, proper documentation and communication with clients.

  2. That is awesome that you are an IT major, also! Give it some time and your area of concentration will find you. Just keep in mind that if you choose Cybersecurity, then you also have the same skills as Networking and Technologies, plus more.

  3. Yes, this was well said. Not only will literature help with netiquette and documents, but even in your everyday conversations with people. It can help you with clearer communication and to speak on a more intelligent level!
